Where:  Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center, Columbia University Medical Center, 1150 St. Nicholas Ave, NY, NY

When:   July 29, 2014 and the Second Tuesday of Every Month from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Berrie Center or have blood drawn at Quest Labs

  • Helping the school help your child
  • Developing a Diabetes Medical Management Plan
  • Understanding the 504 Plan
  • Educating school personnel
  • Educating classmates
  • Understanding “reasonable accommodations”
  • Creating a diabetes supply checklist

Caregiver’s Workshop
Workshop is designed to help caregivers such as grandparents, aunts/uncles, siblings, babysitters and family friends feel more comfortable while caring for children and adults with Type 1 Diabetes.

Topics We Plan To Discuss:

  • What is diabetes and why do some kids get it?
  • Types of insulin and how they work
  • Blood sugar testing and insulin injections
  • How to treat high and low blood sugars
  • Carbohydrate Counting
  • Ongoing Diabetes Research at NBDC
  • Hands-on demonstration & use of meters, insulin pens, needles and pumps
